Advocate Phafane re-elected LeFA President
Advocate Salemane Phafane (KC) was on Saturday re-elected as the Lesotho Football Association President following a landslide victory over Maseru District Football Association President Lijane Nthunya.
The King’s Counsel secured 42 votes out of the 49 delegates, who were eligible to vote in the Saturday’s Congress held in Maseru while his challenger managed only seven votes.
In his acceptance speech, the LeFA President thanked COSAFA, CAF and FIFA having taken part in the Lesotho Football Association XVIth Congress virtually.
“First of all, colleagues and friends at COSAFA, CAF and FIFA, I thank you for joining us in this important Congress of our Federation,” Advocate Phafane said in his acceptance speech.
“It’s indeed as I said in the beginning, a historic Congress, which you have all joined us virtually. Know that we have demonstrated to the world that distance is not a barrier and that the football family will not be divided merely because of a pandemic.
“We still remain in-touch as a family of football and thanks for being with us.”
Advocate Phafane, who was recently elected to serve in the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, also conveyed his message of gratitude to the Lesotho Football Association structures for trusting him with another term in office as the President of the football mother body in the Kingdom.
“To you my leaders, Secretaries, Presidents, and members of our structures, I thank you for your unshaken trust in choosing me as the leader of this Association again. I must say that without you, I’m nothing,” LeFA President stated.
“I once again appeal to all the structures to join hands together for the betterment of our football. I take this position on a mandate from you and together we can grow the level of football in this country to higher level.
“We have big dreams for our football, we need your expertise, and we invite all of you to work with us to achieve this dream of ours,” he said.
The Lesotho Football Association XVIth Congress was graced by officials from the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission, Lesotho National Olympic Committee, LeFA Honorary Secretary General Chief Justice Tṧeliso Monaphathi and Honorary NEC members Mr.Thabo Pule and Mr. Rantsubise Matete among many others.
