The Assist League Development Programme, which was launched in 2017 is aimed at sharing expertise and knowledge with UEFA\u2019s five sister confederations and their member associations to support the development of football.<\/p>\n
Launching the programme on Monday, Lesotho Football Association Secretary General, Mokhosi Mohapi, expressed his delight at being among the first 11 African countries to get the UEFA Assist Programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who have been in football as long as I have been will remember a similar program called the Meridian Project. It was where they want already established European countries to partner with African MAs and the first program, we were partnered with England together with Botswana and Malawi,\u201d the LeFA Secretary General said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also looking to take advantage because there are some countries on the continent that do not embrace this arrangement, so we are looking forward to taking on another country so that we extend our benefits.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are starting an era of renewing, an era of hope, an era of recovering from the lost time we\u2019ve had over decades, how best to start it ahead of government as we have always done as LeFA.\u201d<\/p>\n
Head of the UEFA Assist Programme, Eva Pasquier, said the workshop is meant to capacitate senior officials of the top-flight clubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is so important that the clubs function properly and efficiently, meaning development of the players and competitions of good quality and also in the administration, marketing and management,\u201d said Pasquier.<\/p>\n
The UEFA Assist programme is based on four pillars.<\/strong><\/p>\n Capacity building \u2013 a series of education and knowledge-sharing programmes for UEFA\u2019s sister confederations and their member associations.<\/p>\n Development of youth football \u2013 opportunities for talented young players to gain experience, learn about different cultures and develop both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n Infrastructure \u2013 small-scale infrastructure projects that provide immediate benefits to the member associations of UEFA\u2019s sister confederations, and<\/p>\n UEFA member association support \u2013 helping and encouraging UEFA member associations to collaborate on football development projects with member associations of UEFA\u2019s sister confederations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Lesotho Football Association with the assistance of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) are hosting a four-day capacity building workshop for premier league clubs.
