Injury heartbreak for Mehalalitoe star
Mehalalitoe star striker Litšeoane Maloro has suffered an ankle injury that has ruled her out of the upcoming COSAFA Women’s Championship scheduled for Port Elizabeth from November 3-14.
The 24-year-old, who plays for Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies in South Africa, limped out of training on Thursday and is expected to be out of action for at least three weeks.
Maloro was expected to play a key role for Mehalalitoe at the regional Women’s Championship alongside the likes of Boitumelo “Queen” Rabale and Senate Letsie.
She has been replaced by Maseeiso Mphubelu from Basetsana United ahead of the team’s departure to Port Elizabeth on Saturday. Mehalalitoe will start their COSAFA campaign in Group B against 2019 finalist-Zambia on October 4 before playing Malawi three days later.
“The Lesotho Football Association would like to inform the football fraternity that Bloemfontein Celtic’s Litšeoane Maloro has been withdrawn from the Mehalalitoe squad traveling to the COSAFA Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth due to injury sustained in training,” the statement from LeFA said.
“Maloro has been replaced by Maseeiso Mphubelu from Basetsana United. LeFA is already assisting her with the rehabilitation process and we wish her a speedy recovery from the injury.”
