LeFA President awarded Honorary Status at COSAFA AGM
The Lesotho Football Association President, Advocate Salemane Phafane (KC), was among regional leaders, who were on Thursday recognized by the regional body, COSAFA during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Johannesburg.
Advocate Phafane was awarded the COSAFA Honorary Vice-President Status alongside Adam Mthethwa from Eswatini.
Former COSAFA Presidents Mr. Seketu Patel and Dr. Phillip Chiyangwa from Mauritius and Zimbabwe respectively were awarded the Honorary President Status while Mr. Ashford Mamelodi was named as the Honorary Secretary General in an event that was graced by CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
“COSAFA recognised several individuals with long service recognition, including naming Dr. Phillip Chiyangwa as Honorary President. Dr. Chiyangwa was COSAFA President from 2017-2021,” the statement from COSAFA said.
“Seketu Patel, who was COSAFA President from 2006-2016, was also given the Honorary President title. Salemane Phafane from Lesotho and Adam Mthethwa from Eswatini were awarded the Honorary Vice-Presidents status, while Ashford Mamelodi was named as the Honorary Secretary General.”
COSAFA announced that it has endorsed bids from Botswana and South Africa to host 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“The South African Football Association presented their bid to delegates for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the Botswana Football Association presented their bid for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals,” the regional body explained.
“With the unanimous approval of all member associations present today, COSAFA officially endorses the Botswana 2027 AFCON bid, as well as South Africa’s bid for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027,” COSAFA President Artur de Almeida e Silva said.
