Likuena beat Zimbabwe to go top of Group C
Lesotho maintained their impressive run in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers by beating Zimbabwe 2-0 at Orlando Stadium to go top of Group C.
Veteran defender Rethabile Rasethuntša put Likuena ahead in the 21st heading home inside the box from a well delivered corner-kick by Thabo Matšoele.
The lead was doubled in the 30th minute as a brilliant pass from Lehlohonolo Fothoane found Jane Thabantšo, who showed his composure in the box beating a defender and goalkeeper for Lesotho’s second goal.
The victory took Likuena, as the Lesotho National team is affectionately known, to the summit of Group C with five points after three games.
The Leslie Notši’s coached side will now shift their focus to their Tuesday clash with Rwanda at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The East African country are a point behind Lesotho but suffered their first defeat to Benin on Thursday while Likuena and Nigeria remain the only two side in Group C yet to lose a match.
Nigeria and South Africa played-out to a one-all draw in another Group C match played in Uyo on Thursday.
