Limkokwing celebrates maiden trophy with Nedbank Championship
Limkokwing University lifted the Nedbank Championship for their maiden trophy since the formation of the club eight-years-ago following a 2-0 victory over Ace Maseru at Bambatha Tṧita Sports Arena on Sunday.
The Nedbank Championship is a clash of two teams that won promotion from the two A Division streams at the end of every season.
Ace Maseru finished top of the Southern stream to secure topflight football for the 2023/24 season while Limkokwing are heading to the Premier league after winning the single automatic spot in the north stream.
The final on Sunday, was a repeat of the Nedbank 8 quarterfinal clash between the two teams, which Ace Maseru also won 2-1 on their way to be crowned the champions of the tournament last weekend after defeating Quthing LMPS 3-1 in the final.
Thabiso Sesiu put the Daniel Ntlaloe coached side ahead early in the first half as they looked to get their revenge on Ace Maseru, who were high on confident having won the Nedbank a week ago.
Limkokwing dominance in the match was sealed in the second when talisman, Lemohang Lintṧa bagged the second goal to boost side chances of winning the match for their first ever trophy.
The club has been in operation since the 2015/16 when they bought now defunct Nyenye Rovers to later rename the club after the University, which originates from Malaysia and has been in operation in Lesotho since 2008.
The Nedbank 8 and the Nedbank Championship are bankrolled by Nedbank Lesotho to the tune of M250,000 since announcing the partnership with the Lesotho Football Association during the 2018/2019 season.
