Makateng delighted to break duck for Richards Bay.
Lesotho international Katleho Makateng has expressed his relief at opening his account for Richards Bay during the 3-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup on Tuesday night.
The 24-year-old forward has been struggling to find the back of the net since moving to the DSTV Premiership at the start of the 2022/2023 season.
He came off the bench to score the second goal of the night for the Natal Boys as they went down to Sundowns in a five-goal thriller.
Makateng moved to South Africa after an impressive maiden season in the Lesotho’s Vodacom Premier league, where he scored 20 goals to walk away with the golden boot award.
The forward turned heads playing at his first Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup in Durban last year before eventually signing for the KwaZulu Natal based outfit after just a year playing topflight football in his country.
“I’m really excited to have finally scored my first goal for the club and I give thanks to the Almighty,” the forward said.
“The love I received from my teammates at club and the national team as well as people back home in Lesotho was amazing.
“They have all been waiting for it and I believe it will open the floodgates.”
Makateng has featured in 10 of the 19 games played by Richards Bay in all competitions since joining the club.
