Makateng delighted with PSL debut
Likuena striker Katleho Makateng is over the moon to have finally made his debut for Richards Bay in the South African DSTV Premiership having featured in the goalless draw against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old hitman missed the 2-0 win over Golden Arrows in the opening weekend of the new season due to paperwork but was available for selection in the second match.
The Richards Bay’s technical team did not waste any time throwing the Lesotho striker into the deep end just a day after receiving his playing card, where he played until the 70th minute against Gallants.
“Indeed, I’m very happy because it was not a bad start for me as we managed to get a point from the match. It was a good experience, and I will grow from it to improve on my next game,” the forward said.
Makateng, who made the move to the DSTV Premiership after impressing at the recent Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup, stated that he was not surprised to be in the starting line-up against Gallants.
“Of course, I had goosebumps before the match and it was not really a surprise that the coach decided to have been in the starting line up,” Makateng stated.
“The preseason games I played after arriving at the club helped me a lot in terms of settling into the team and building my confidence for the start of the new season.
“The target as a striker is to continue to score goals. I know it’s a different league and different environment to where I was in the previous season, but I will continue to work hard to achieve my goals,” he said.
The Leribe born striker was a hit in his first year of topflight football in the Vodacom Premier League, where he scored 20 goals for LDF to have a clean sweep in the end of the season awards.
