Makoanyane XI go down to South Africa’s Amajita
Makoanyane XI went down 3-1 to visiting South Africa’s Amajita in a friendly match played at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena on Friday.
The two countries are fine tuning their preparations for the upcoming CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Eswatini in September.
South Africa started the match the better of the two teams dominating ball possession and it didn’t come as a surprise when they broke the deadlock in the 20th minute through Mfundo Vilakazi.
The lead was doubled six minutes later as Kutlwano Lethlaku found the back of the net from close range.
Lesotho managed to bounce back with a goal in the 39th minute through Paseka Maile, who had been giving the visitors a tough time in attack.
The match headed to the Half-time break with Amajita leading 2-1.
Both teams continued where they left off in the first half playing attacking football and with South Africa still having the upper hand with ball possession.
The introduction of Orlando Pirates Development player, Tumelo Shai at the start of the second half seemed to breath some life into Makoanyane XI’s play as they took the game to South Africa.
The Quthing born combined well with with Maile, who was impressive on the day and was denied the second goal to level matters by Portugal based, Fletcher Smith Love, in goals for South Africa.
Makoanyane XI goalkeeper Leluma Mofoka, was in top form and made several saves to stop South Africa from increasing the lead as he showed his experience as one of a few players that have tasted topflight football in the Lesotho side.
Amajita, who squad boast several names coming from PSL big guns proved their quality in the dying minutes when substitute Shakeel April sealed the win with the third goal after Lesotho failed to clear their lines to secure a 3-1 victory for South Africa.
