Mehalalitoe frustrate Mozambique in friendly series in Maputo
The Senior Women’s national team, Mehalalitoe frustrated their Mozambican counterparts over two friendly matches played in Maputo over the weekend.
The first match on Saturday ended in a one-all stalemate with Lesotho having taken the lead in the 20th minute through Tšoanelo Leboka Mozambique was able to level matters in the second half to avoid a defeat to visiting Lesotho.
The two countries took to the pitch again on Sunday in an entertaining affair played at the Lygly Arena in Maputo but failed to produce goals.
Both teams created several goal scoring chances, but the players were not clinical enough in front of goal to break the deadlock as the game concluded in a goalless draw.
Mehalalitoe coach Shalane Lehohla downplayed the improved performances since taking over the reins and said his team is still a work in progress.
“Yes, I’m happy with how the team played, but we are still a work in progress and there is still a lot of work to be done going forward,” Shalane said.
The former Lesotho international, who will be heading to his first COSAFA Women’s Championship in charge of Mehalalitoe said their target is reach the final at the regional tournament scheduled for Gqeberha in October.
“Our goal collectively is to go to the final and that’s our ambition as a team.”
