Round-up of Lesotho players in South Africa
Likuena players had a good weekend in the South African DSTV Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship respectively as Motebang Sera ended his goal-scoring drought for Royal AM in the 2-1 victory over Katleho Makateng’s Richards Bay.
The Lesotho leading goal-scorer in the history of the COSAFA Cup has been plagued by injuries this season and has been in and out of the Thwihli Thwahla starting line-up as well as missing several Likuena matches.
Sera was named in the starting line up in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on Saturday after impressing when he came from the bench as his side went down 1-0 to AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup last 16 encounter a week ago.
The Lesotho striker was rewarded with a place in the starting line-up against the Natal Rich boys and repaid the faith of his coach by stepping up to score a penalty in the 52nd minute after Menzi Masuku was brought down in the box.
His compatriot Katleho Makateng came from the bench in the 76th minute but could not help relegation threaten Richards Bay avoid defeat in the derby.
Sera is up against his former mentor in Lehlohonolo Seema in their upcoming fixture with the former Lesotho captain having helped Sekhukhune United move away from the danger zone to 8th place while Makateng and Richards Bay face Chippa United in another battle of the relegation threaten sides.
Meanwhile, in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Lesotho first choice goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane got off to a win start making his debut for Orbit College in the 2-1 victory over Venda FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
Veteran midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng was also in the starting lineup for Orbit as they returned to the summit of the log table while their countryman, Thato Sefoli, who has missed only two games this season, gave another solid playing the whole 90 minutes as Upington City defeated JDR Stars 3-2 to remain within the chasing pack for promotion in the Motsepe Foundation.
Tlotliso Phatsisi came from the bench as Black Leopards clinched a 2-0 victory over Cedric Stars at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium to move to 7th position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings
