Thabantšo: We need to be more clinical in front of goal
Experienced Likuena forward, Jane Thabantšo, has called on his teammates to be clinical in front of goal when they take on the Seychelles in the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations preliminary round qualifiers.
The two countries will go head-to-head in a two-legged knockout tie to determine a spot in the group phase of the 2023 finals scheduled for the Ivory Coast.
The first-leg will be played at the Cote D’ or Stadium in Mauritius on March 23, while Lesotho will host the return match at Dobsonville Stadium on March 27.
“The two matches are very important for us to secure a spot in the group phase of the qualifiers and give our new coach a winning start,” Thabantšo said.
“We know that Seychelles will make it very difficult for us, but we are prepared to take it to the wire over the two matches.”
Thabantšo, who is among players chasing for the golden boot award in the Lesotho Vodacom Premier League, will be looking to bring his club goal-scoring form to the national team for the two games with the Pirates.
“Looking at our previous matches, we have to improve in the final third because you need goals to win you matches,” the forward stated.
“Of course, as one of the top scorers in the league, it would be nice to transform the goal scoring form into the national team. I’m one of the experienced players in the team and we should lead by example to help our country do well in the two matches.
“We played in the group stage for the 2019 and 2021 qualifiers, and I think we did very well and could have qualified had we won especially the home games,” he said.
