We must dig deep to beat Malawi-Makepe
Lesotho captain Basia Makepe says his country must dig deep for history to repeat itself as they renew their rivalry with Malawi in Wednesday’s Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup clash scheduled for King Zwelithini Stadium.
The two countries faced each at the 2016 edition of the tournament, where Jane Thabantšo scored the solitary goal as Likuena clinched 1-0 victory on thier way to winning the group with nine points.
Coincidentally, Lesotho will also face Mauritius in their group, who they beat 3-0 at the 2016 tournament in Namibia, where Thabantšo grabbed the headlines for scoring the fastest goal in the history of the COSAFA Cup.
“We all know that Malawi are a tough side, and we will have to dig deep to beat them,” Makepe said.
The Lesotho skipper believes Malawi will be motivated to get their revenge as they have failed to beat them in the last two meetings between the two countries.
“It could be that they will be looking for revenge because if you look at our group, its more of the same of what we had in 2016 as we also have Mauritius in our group,” the Lesotho captain stated.
“We won the group in the end and I’m hoping that it will still favour us again in this year’s tournament,” he said.
