MASERU – His Majesty King Letsie III and the Prime Minister Honorouble Ntsokoane Matekane, joined mourners at the burial service of the late football legend Ts’eliso ‘Frisco’ Khomari held at Lesotho Football headquarters, Bambatha Ts’ita Sports Arena on Saturday.
The 72-year-old former sporting legend, who represented his country in football and table tennis, passed away at his home over a week ago following a car accident. He was laid to rest at Kokobela village.
He won 68 caps for his country, where he was the senior national team captain between 1982 to 1987. His illustrious career also took him to South Africa, where he donned the colours of Bloemfontein Celtic and Welkom Real Hearts.
Khomari, who was a multi-talented athlete having also competed in athletics and tennis, also represented his country at the 1978 All Africa Games in Lagos, Nigeria.
After hanging his boots, the football icon served the game as a coach and later worked for the Lesotho Football Association as the CEO, Executive Committee Member and Vice President.
LeFA President Lijane Nthunya led a big football contingent of former and current football administrators and players, who came to bid farewell to the football legend.
In his words of comfort, the King said he was strengthened seeing Khomari’s wife and children find solace in God.
“What has happened has caused all of us confusion, we are asking ourselves why this at this time.”
He urged Basotho, as a Christian nation, to build on their faith. Khomari’s untimely passing, he said, reminds us that God’s ways are beyond our understanding — “the hidden belongs to God and Him alone.”
The King thanked veterans and legends of the game who supported the Khomari family during this difficult period and gave their former colleague a befitting send-off.
