Lesotho’s representatives in the CAF Women’s Champions League-COSAFA Qualifiers, LDF Ladies, have set up base in Gaborone after arriving in Botswana on Monday, ahead of their opening fixture against Gaborone Ladies on Thursday.
The Women Super League champions will be making their third appearance at the tournament and are targeting an improved campaign this year.
LDF Ladies, now under the guidance of Zimbabwean coach Nation Dube, were also part of the teams that featured in the inaugural edition five years ago.
Dube acknowledged that his side has been drawn in a tough group and will need to perform at their best to advance beyond the group stage.
“It’s a tough group, where we need to play well to have our chances of going beyond the group stage,” Dube said. “The girls are motivated to play for the badge and the flag of Lesotho with pride.”
The Zimbabwean tactician, who recently took charge of the team, said he would have preferred more friendly matches to properly assess the squad’s readiness for the zonal qualifiers.
“We are almost there, and I would love to see how they react tomorrow when we train in the Botswana heat,” Dube said. “If we had prepared as per our wish, I would have given you the exact readiness answer, because we would have played more preparatory matches and had time to acclimatize.”
LDF Ladies kick off their campaign against hosts Gaborone Ladies on Thursday.
