LeFA Wraps Up Women’s Football Campaign for the Year in Berea

The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) in collaboration with DIFA Berea concluded its FIFA Women’s Football Campaign for the year in Teyateyaneng on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October.

The two-day festival marked the final leg of the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign; a global programme aimed at encouraging participation in women’s football at grassroots level.

The programme commenced on Wednesday with a walk at 09:00 from Mapoteng Sion Ground to Mapoteng LEC Primary, while in the afternoon, festivities took place at Ha Ntjabane from 14:00.

The campaign aimed to:

– Organise football festivals to encourage girls to play and help them connect with new and old friends in a fun and safe environment;

– Build confidence and provide enjoyment around playing football;

– Increase participation amongst girls and women across all levels and age categories;

– Provide a space for free play where players could feel included, have fun and be inspired.

The campaign in Teyateyaneng brought together young girls from around Berea to introduce them to football through small-sided games, fun activities and life-skills messaging, while also promoting existing competitions and girls’ programmes.

This initiative is in line with LeFA’s commitment to grow the women’s game from the grassroots and ensure more girls get the opportunity to play, stay in the game and dream big.

This year’s initiative has reached remote rural areas in districts such as Mokhotlong, Thaba-Tseka, Mohale’s Hoek as well as Maseru, where it was launched in 2023.
