The Lesotho Football Association U15 side has been drawn against Sierra Leone in the Round of 32 of the Tier D-4th Tier playoffs as the journey continues for Mountain Kingdom at the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup & Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Lesotho finished 4th in Group I with 3 points from 4 games, after a famous 3-2 opening win over Gabon, to qualify for Tier D. Lesotho ended with 1 win, 3 losses, 6 goals scored and 12 conceded to Advance to Tier D.
Sierra Leone, who competed in Group AF alongside Afghanistan, Djibouti, Russia, Sudan and Türkiye, are Lesotho’s next hurdle.
The Young Likuena now face a straight knockout test. A win over the West African country will see the boys from the Mountain Kingdom advance to the last 16 of Tier D.
The match is part of the second phase of the tournament format. After the initial group phase, teams were placed into six performance tiers based on results, with every team continuing until the final day. The winner of Tier A will be crowned FIFA U15 World Cup Champions, while Tier D offers its own trophy and ranking.
For Lesotho, who are among 78 associations making their FIFA World Cup debut at any level in Baku, reaching the last 16 of their tier would be another historic milestone after becoming the first ever Lesotho team to win a FIFA World Cup match when they beat Gabon 3-2 on Saturday.
The Tier D Round of 32 is expected to be played on 28-29 October at the Hovsan Competition Complex in Baku, with kick-off times to be confirmed by FIFA.
